Syslog Server

Hi,

is there a way to forward all messages to a syslog server ?

In a normal linux distrubtion there is a syslog configuration file.

This this at all possible to do so here or is that functionality stripped ?

thanks

Re: Syslog Server

Well I guess that's like most linux distros,

in the etc directory there is a syslog.conf file where you wan specify a syslog server. And then all messages that are logged in the log files are also send to a syslog server specified, if that option is selected.

For instance astlinux has that fuctionality, which is also an embedded version.

Thanks

stefanca

Re: Syslog Server

I believe it is busybox syslog which is documented here;

http://www.busybox.net/downloads/BusyBox.html

Code:

syslogd [OPTIONS]

System logging utility. Note that this version of syslogd ignores /etc/syslog.conf.

Options:

        -n              Run in foreground
-O FILE         Log to given file (default:/var/log/messages)
-l n            Set local log level
        -S              Smaller logging output
-s SIZE         Max size (KB) before rotate (default:200KB, 0=off)
-b NUM          Number of rotated logs to keep (default:1, max=99, 0=purge)
-R HOST[:PORT]  Log to IP or hostname on PORT (default PORT=514/UDP)
-L              Log locally and via network (default is network only if -R)
        -D              Drop duplicates
-C[size(KiB)]   Log to shared mem buffer (read it using logread)

syslog is started from /etc/inittab
