Trouble getting working uImage built

I've been working through trying to get a working image compiled on an Ubuntu 10.04 system. Image compiles fine, flashes onto IP02 without problems and presents running dropbear and GUI. However, asterisk fails to load any modules, I am unable to reboot or flash the device through the GUI and get a number of strange errors regarding write failures and broken pipes.

lukeman was able to provide an image for me that works, so I began a comparison of the configuration files to see what might be the difference.

One of the only differences found was that in build_ip04/uClinux-dist/linux-2.6.x/.config

My compile is setting the following, my setting in the first block of the diff. luckman's in the second block.

***************
*** 210,216 ****
  #
  CONFIG_CLKIN_HZ=10000000
  # CONFIG_BFIN_KERNEL_CLOCK is not set
! CONFIG_MAX_VCO_HZ=400000000
  CONFIG_MIN_VCO_HZ=50000000
  CONFIG_MAX_SCLK_HZ=133333333
  CONFIG_MIN_SCLK_HZ=27000000
--- 211,217 ----
  #
  CONFIG_CLKIN_HZ=10000000
  # CONFIG_BFIN_KERNEL_CLOCK is not set
! CONFIG_MAX_VCO_HZ=750000000
  CONFIG_MIN_VCO_HZ=50000000
  CONFIG_MAX_SCLK_HZ=133333333
  CONFIG_MIN_SCLK_HZ=27000000

Now I am currently configured to build for BF532 and Revision 0.6, but I have tried it with defaults of BF533 as well.

Any idea if this would create the behavior I am seeing?

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

To reply to my own post, a little googling tells me that this is the max clock speed for the device which I do believe is 400mhz on the BF532.

Which leads me to the question, what is the effect of running the BF533 code on the BF532? More importantly, what is the effect of running the wrong silicon revision. Some research on that topic shows several potential issues including DMA problems which I believe I am experiencing on this device.

So back to the challenge of getting a working image built...

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

Following up with more info on my image compile environment...

I am compiling on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. Any chance that is preventing me from compiling a fully working uImage?

I am in the process of a Fedora 32-bit image download to see about building another compile enviro just for SwitchFin.

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

And another follow-up here...

Building on Fedora has not solved my problem.

uImage gets built without errors. Flashes properly on the IP02 and will even run some parts of asterisk, but does not load basic things like the sip module.

Hints would be welcome.

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

Debugging this a bit further, I am able to build a working image with the exception of loading asterisk modules. All utilities like ssmtp, rsync, etc. work as expected.

asterisk processes do start (although only about 6). I can do an asterisk -r to connect to the server, but commands like 'sip show peers' return "unknown command.

Would sure like to get over the hurdle here.

I am specifically trying to build for an IP02, BF532 revision 0.6. I've tried compiling out of the box without changing any config parameters and end up with the same result.

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

Another update on this issue:

Appears that none of the asterisk modules are getting put in the image. Compiled, but not copied to build_ip04/root/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/

I have copied these by hand, stripped them and created an image that now loads and is working as expected. Not clear where this is going wrong. Obviously I am making headway but would appreciate any pointers that might lead me to solving this issue.

thanks

Re: Trouble getting working uImage built

Hi rterbush,

Sorry for the late response.
I guess you already maneg to move forward but just in case

It may be a permission issue or someting on your host. I have definitely not observed this.

You may try 'make asterisk' and you should see the coping/stripping modules at the end.
Do you see something strange?

Cheers
Dimitar
