[270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Hello

Now that I succesfully built a new image with Lua, I wanted to begin editing the uClinux configuration so that it would work as I needed it.

1. The first thing I needed, was to have the 01 use DHCP instead of a static IP (my DHCP server is configured to send a specific IP config to the 01 based on its MAC address).

As I was told in a previous message, I connected to the embedded Switchfin web server... but there is no menu:

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/9606 … nomenu.jpg

FWIW, since the IP address in /etc/network.conf (192.168.1.100) is wrong for my LAN, I had to run "ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1". I don't know if this would explain the empty GUI.

2. Since I coulnd't access the GUI, I edited /persistent/etc/network.conf through the command-line (DHCP=yes) and rebooted, but... after rebooting, the contents of /etc/network.conf hasn't changed.

I thought files under /persistent/ were written to the NAND.

Thank you.

Re: [270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Hi Gilles

The config you need to edit is /etc/asterisk/networking.conf
On startup the SwitchFin firmware rewrites the /etc/network.conf with the settings from /etc/asterisk/networking.conf.

Thanks Albi. Since my build machine is turned off, I'll try tomorrow morning and report back.

Re: [270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Code:

# cat /etc/asterisk/networking.conf
;!
;! Automatically generated configuration file
;! Filename: networking.conf (/etc/asterisk/networking.conf)
;! Generator: Manager
;! Creation Date: Sat Sep  9 17:08:48 2006
;!

[general]
HOSTNAME = aadk
ESSID =
WEPKEY =
OPERMODE = FCC
SUBBLOCK = 192.168.69
ALTSUBBLOCK = 10.69.69
NETMASK = 255.255.255.0
DHCPSTARTUNIT = 50
DHCPCOUNT = 100
SSHACCESS = yes

How do I enable the DHCP client so the Atcom gets its IP configuration from my ADSL modem instead of getting a fixed IP (192.168.1.100)?

Generally speaking, what/where are the persistent configuration files and what scripts are run at every boot, so that I can take a look?

Thank you.

Re: [270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Sorry Gilles

Should have been rc_org.conf

Just set DHCPD = yes

Re: [270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Thanks Jason, that did the trick. I wouldn't have thought of looking for network-related configuration infos in /etc/asterisk/. Guess this is a legacy.

BTW, what scripts does the kernel run at bootime, so I take a look at what they do?

Re: [270] /etc/* not sticky; Why no menu in GUI?

Hi Gilles

The main reason the configuration comes from the asterisk dir is that we have full control over the configs via the AMI (asterisk management interface) from the GUI, we could write the network settings directly to the /etc/network.conf but we would have to call external scripts and this could cause issues.

The /etc/asterisk/rc_org.conf is mapped as the network.conf via the /etc/rc script

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
