Explain how to persistent image works....

Hi  i installed the Switchfin on IP02...compiling all from the SVN.
Now to customize it i need to write our specific configurations in the IP02...(vlan...SNMP...)
I tried to understand the mtdblocks partitions and  structure but without success.

May someone help me to understand the structure and HOW i can write the files avoiding that the next reboot delete every conf files wrote.

Regards

Re: Explain how to persistent image works....

Hi Serenissimo

All the SwitchFin configurations are kept inside the /persistent folder (this is mounted as writable) and each linked to the correct location at boot, so any changes to the configs will still be there after reboot.

Thanks
Jason

Jason
how i can write in the persistent directory a file text.txt ? I tried and after the reboot all the changes made in /persistent directory disappeared.
Please show me how can i write in definitive way on persistent file system and  mtdblock directory structure for Switchfin distro.

Thank you for your help

Re: Explain how to persistent image works....

Hi Serenissimo

Please try the following SSH into your IP02
login using root/uClinux
run the following

Code:

echo "hello im your IP02" > /persistent/hello
reboot

after the system has rebooted re login and run

Code:

cat /persistent/hello

(you should see hello im your IP02 on the screen), if you cant "cat" /persistant/hello after reboot then there is an issue with your firmware.

Re: Explain how to persistent image works....

Hi Guys,

To be sure that flash operation completes you may need to execute 'sync' command before the reboot

My five cents.
