Asterisk 1.8

Will there be consideration to drop asterisk 1.6 support and jump into asterisk 1.8 in the future switchfin build? Seriously looking forward to see this happens.

Re: Asterisk 1.8

Hello,

Well we havent observed very good performance with Asterisk 1.6.
Some further investigation is needed to answer your question.

Any input in this respect is very welcome.

Cheers
Dimitar

Re: Asterisk 1.8

I have not tested asterisk 1.6 with switchfin before. 1.4 works great except recently we encountered problem with svn 456. Don't know why there is sip connection problem. Very slow.

My box has been moved to my brother site. I am looking forward to get another one with 2 ports or 8 ports. But not yet able to get a good deal in price. Wonder if we have have more RAM for 8 ports version.
I have asked switchvoice for a quote but not yet received the reply.

Hi Ckleea,

What do you mean by slow? How do you measure/observe?

Probably this is just a network issue or you have MAC/IP
collision in your network.

Best Regards
Dimitar

Re: Asterisk 1.8

I've been using 1.6 so far and apart from not playing any sounds, it works fine. That's obviously quite a serious problem but for the purposes of my prototype, it's not a showstopper. I haven't been pushing it very hard though.

You've said that you haven't observed very good performance. Could you elaborate on exactly what that means? Is there anything in particular that is slow?

I would very much like to see 1.8 brought to the table. Have you done any work on this at all? I am willing to do the entire port and test it extensively, at least within the limited scope of my application. Are you aware of anything in particular that might pose a problem? Do you think it might be affected by the same performance issues as 1.8?

Re: Asterisk 1.8

Hi James,

Well It was more then few mounts ago.
There were a stability issues with Astreisk 1.6 (stacks dumps even) which i have observed playing with the GUI. And I had no time to investigate.

Yes Kelvin is doing some work with Asterisk 1.8 last week. He has it running already and doing some tests now. Me personally haven't tested it yet.
With his permission i will add his work in Switchfin very soon.
We should make Asterisk 1.8 running well as it is a long term release.

Cheers
Dimitar

Re: Asterisk 1.8

That's great news. I've just committed some improvements to how Asterisk is built. Hopefully this will make the integration of 1.8 a little tidier. I suppose you'll want to drop 1.6 entirely?

Re: Asterisk 1.8

Hi Guys

I think the GUI issues were caused by Asterisk not passing system cmd's there was a big issue here with the 1.6 build, how ever i have removed passing of system cmd's from the GUI via asterisk in favor of CGI so 1.6 might function a bit better now. smile

Thanks
Jason

Code:

[Dec 31 19:01:19] ERROR[648]: /home/jason/switchfin/build_ip04/asterisk-1.6.2.6/include/asterisk/utils.h:472 _ast_calloc: Memory Allocation Failure in function __ao2_alloc at line 316 of astobj2.c

Re: Asterisk 1.8

I forgot to ask, did you try playing any sounds? They simply don't play for me. I haven't looked into it too deeply but I couldn't see any obvious reason.

Re: Asterisk 1.8

Hi Chewi

Just checked and could playback sounds via FXS fine in 1.6, are you getting any CLI  errors??

Thanks
Jason

Re: Asterisk 1.8

False alarm. I had replaced the Asterisk configuration with my own minimal one and I'd forgotten to include format_pcm.so in modules.conf. Strangely, that didn't raise any errors. It just silently failed - literally!
